For a while, I was contemplating HTC Sensation, Sony Xperia Arc and the Samsung I eventually went for. And I couldn't be happier that this was my choice.
Anybody who doesn't know this phone, here it is:
By looking at the specs, it seems very impressive. But a few of my apprehensions were that it seemed very cheaply built in comparison to the Sensation, and not as sleek as the Xperia Arc. Also, previous version of their UI (Touchwiz) has not always ran smoothly with Android.
But after playing with the phone a bit, I had to get it.
A few key points:
Build - It looks very big, but when you hold it in your hand it fits very comfortably, not to mention that is is very light so you can hold it for long periods of time without any discomfort.
Processor - Featuring a dual-core 1.2 ghz processor, this phone can run multiple applications without any problems or stutters. Everything happens instantly, you click.. it does. It is unbelievably quick. Also downloads extremely quickly from Android Market and web browsing is very pleasurable.
Screen - 4.3 inch Super Amoled. It's simply breathtaking. The colours are very rich and easy on the eye. One word to describe this ...Sexy. Also has Gorilla glass. I have tested this by dropping on its front a few times. No scratches at all. Very good in strong sunlight, can still easily see the screen while outside in the middle of the day.
Camera - Has an 8MP rear camera and 2 MP front camera. Picture quality very good and tons of features that are found in most Samsung Compact cameras. Takes good pictures in low light also. The thing which is really impressive about the camera feature on this phone is that it records in Full HD. 1080p at 30 fps. HTC Sensation also has this, but when you record with that, it is grainy and laggy. The Samsung captures beautifully.
Battery Life - This can always be a dealbreaker with most Smartphones these days. I haven't fully tested it yet but it is 1650mAh and seems to last a day and a half with lots of usage.
OS - Samsung Touchwiz with the latest version of Gingerbead 2.3.2. I love Android, and can't sing its praises enough. The market has lots of fun applications, and the homescreens are very customisable. But if you are used to the iOS, it might take a while to get used to it. But free apps is what i want!
Ok that's enough. But seriously.. if any of you are on the search for a newphone, give this one a look. You won't be disappointed!!

I think my carrier has this, so I might be able to get it for my misses.
I have never been a fan of Samsung because all I bought for 8 straight years with my last carrier were nothing BUT samsung phones, and they all were crap.
Here was Engadget's review on it: http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/
No release date yet for us. But I will be upgrading my misses iPhone to this. I hope it can do Netflix. That is all she needs lol.

i hate in america how companies get rights over phones. we have a thing here where carriers aren't allowed to have phones exclusively. at least not forever.
i had a few samsungs in the past.. but nothing like this.
apparently though, iphone 5 will be coming out soon. so if she's used to iphone maybe go for that.
what i read though on that site you posted, is that this phone is coming out in the states in September.. but it will be the galaxy s2 plus, and it will have a 1.7 ghz processor! omg! i want that now
