Jumped in BF4 tonight for a little. Pros and cons from a complete noob's perspective (subject to change):
Not much chatter on voice chat. So sick of the mouth breathers, ragers, wannabe rappers, etc on Ghosts. This was a pleasant surprise.
Lots of games going and the ability to choose your server based on ping. HUGE upgrade over Ghosts.
The sound in game is amazing. Graphics are nice, of course, but the sound is what impressed me more.
More movement overall in a single game than in 2 hours of Ghosts. But more on this later...
Controls feel simultaneously clunky and loose. I know that sounds contradictory, but that's how it feels. Suppose that just takes getting used to. (But CoD controls are tighter. Give credit where it's due)
I didn't realize how dependent on Stalker I've been until tonight. <sigh>
This game confuses the hell out of me. I mostly have zero clue where to go. I can't get a feel for where the enemy is. The mini-map is a bit odd as enemies who should be right next to me are 50-70 yards away... or right next to me... BANG! I find it hard to spot enemies more than 30-50 yards away. Footstep sounds aren't as distinctive as I'd like, nor directional hearing. I'd like a kill cam if only to see what I missed or did wrong. Telling me where the guy is going after the fact tells me little of value (usually). Again. All of these things are subject to change as I am in fact a complete noob.
No idea how to customize my classes outside of the in-game menu. Is there a way to do this when you're not in a lobby with the game timer already ticking down?
My biggest con coming up (with a caveat)
Remember when I said "more on this later?" Well here it comes.
Caveat: Being completely clueless, and alone, I decided maybe Conquest and Rush weren't a good gametype for me to start on (after getting destroyed over and over). So I played some TDM. Yeah, I know... but keep that in mind when I go on my rant. It is TDM.
How is this game better than Ghosts? I'm seeing the same lame-assed community. Corner hugging freaks. Snipers everywhere. Everyone laying prone pretending to be dead, or grass, or rubble. People content to hang out of windows all day long.
Couple that with starter weapons not being very good. They aren't. At all. He who has the better weapon often wins. Getting sprayed
down from halfway across a HUGE map by an SMG? What happened to recoil? I have it. Many guys seem to be using MW2 ACRs.
Or I'm just a noob. Yeah. I am.
(I did get a bit better by the second hour at least)
