Got a Rotti - Shep cross.
When I got him, he was 5 years old, 115 lbs of solid muscle.
He's 11 now, still 100lbs....I have never had to walk him on a leash.
Everyone thinks their dog is the best, but he is truly a gentle giant.
Especially if you consider his past.
He came from an Indian reserve. Ran wild for the first 5 years of his life. Used to fight off coyotes, killing some of them to frighten off the pack.
Once he was mine, taking him to an offleash park, if a dog mounted him , he'd be super chill, uttering a deep growl to warn off the dog. If advice wasn't heeded, he was straight to the throat, no blood. Just a real deal "f-you, don't make me bite down".
Could call him off like a light switch. Never had to fear him turning on me because he knew that I'd give him time to sort things out alone. Once I gave the call, he knew it was the right time and the other dog fcked off.
He went toe to toe with some big azz dogs who wanted to get all up in his sh!t. Like humiliated killfarmers, they'd leave in silence, tail between legs.
It's nice having a dog like that. Good with kids, good with people, good with other dogs, but wouldn't let anything hurt his pride or his family.
But people will see him and cross the street, or pick up thier kids or dogs....but the reality is, like most rotti's, he's a more a lova than a fighta.
