I don't know whether or not Xcal uses Ghost in BO2, as I haven't paid attention to his setups here. Assassin was standard for him in MW3... but, as I've explained before, I can't fault him for that. He was running around with Assassin, while the enemy was often hiding with Assassin while spamming UAV. Not running Assassin set him up to be ambushed left and right, and any amount of skill is going to have a difficult time overcoming multiple enemies that have the element of surprise on their side.
Maybe if he would've played with several other people in his party on a regular basis, then weeding out the corner campers without would have been easier for him without using Assissin, but he was typically either by himself or with that spoon guy.
Having said that, I do agree that he's good enough to where he probably could've have still topped lobby after lobby without Assassin, though I also think his point count would've been lower. At least he gave up on the game completely fairly early, like last January or February, I believe.
Anyway, one person worth keeping an eye on is Mark of J. I think he used Assassin in MW3, but he's done some setup videos now for BO2 where he does have Ghost on some of his classes, but he points out he prefers to go without it, as he'd rather have enemy players coming to him. That's also why he doesn't use suppressors most of the time, the other reason being that he doesn't want to deal with the damage reduction.
